About Us

Although our company was formed in January of 2005, the story began in August of 2004.  Following a few years of courtship, we (Doug and Elizabeth) decided it was time to get married.  We wanted to go back to more traditional customs and chose to do a Hand Fasting ceremony which is the origin of the term “to tie the knot”.

   Our search for the right person to perform our ceremony led us to an officiate who expanded on the theme of the day and suggested incorporating Lindisfarne Mead into our ceremony.  The officiate had spent many summers on the Island and was well aware of the old world tradition of the bride and groom toasting each other with this nectar of the Gods. He knew of someone who had a bottle and we got in touch with him and purchased it.

  We found this hauntingly unique drink to be irresistible and realizing it was not available in North America, traveled to Lindisfarne and met with Brenda and Lindsay Hackett, forming a friendship, and a partnership with Lindisfarne Ltd.  We are the first company to bring this Special drink to North America. The North American label carries the old Anglo Saxon word Mede.
